Woman Of The Month – Maria Kim Nielsen
My Mother is the Bravest Person I Know.
Meet Maria Kim Nielsen, she has one of the most heartwarming stories, we ever heard. A story about stepping out of your childhood image of whom your mother is, to be able to see her as a whole person with many more nuances, than you thought was possible. This is exactly the spirit we like to convey at roccamore. So, we made a big pot of coffee and invited Maria in for a cup and a chat.
“Marias mother, Rita would make traditional Danish food with meat and potatoes for her family every day while listening to Elvis on the stereo.”
“I grew up in the 1990s in a traditional Danish family near Odense,” says Maria Kim Nielsen and paints a picture of a solid, Danish family the way they used to make them. Marias mother, Rita would make traditional Danish food with meat and potatoes for her family every day while listening to Elvis on the stereo.
Maria explains that she sometimes feels like she is the odd one in the family, because she is adventurous and never afraid to do what she wants. “When my mother got diagnosed with breast cancer, it gave me a new perspective on who she is. It kind of turned our relationship around. All of a sudden, I was the worried one and my mother was this brave and optimistic person, who never doubted for a second, that she would get well again.”
”Today I can honestly say, that I am super proud of my mother. She is definitely the toughest cookie in the jar.”
”I was so impressed with how strong and brave my mother really is. She never doubted that she would get well again, even if it meant having her breast removed. I am so relieved that my mother’s positivity also became her cure. Today she is cancer-free, she didn’t have to have her breast removed and she only has to do regular check-ups. ”Today I can honestly say, that I am super proud of my mother. She is definitely the toughest cookie in the jar. I had never expected her to respond in such a positive way and be as strong in such a difficult situation as she has proven to be.”Maria suggested the name Miss Presley in honor of her mother’s love for ‘The King’. It is a reminder that what you see is not always what you get and that people can sometimes surprise you, if you let them.
